AutoZine Awards 2007

Worst Car of the year: Dodge Caliber

This year Chrysler is the big winner of AutoZine Awards. Having swept the "Disappointment of the Year" and "Ugliest Car of the Year" awards, Chrysler completed the hat-trick by taking our big prize, "Worst Car of the Year" award ! Thanks to the world-beating performance of its Dodge Caliber. Congratulation !

Dodge Caliber possesses all the qualities necessary for this award: it is built upon a wrong concept - Chrysler thought that a SUV-looking hatchback could please American and European customers simultaneously, but this resulted in unnecessary weight gain and higher center of gravity, which translated to poor performance, handling, ride and fuel consumption.

But that's not all. The Caliber also has an ugly design in and out, appalling plastic quality, poor fit and finish, noisy engines, clonky gearchange for manual gearbox, annoying response for the CVT, truck-like steering... Scores poorly in most areas, no wonder it beat other contenders easily to take our last award.

Runner up:
Chrysler Sebring / Dodge Avenger

Another Chrysler hampered by ugly design, poor dynamics and cheap interior.
Chevrolet Impala SS

When a torquey 5.3 V8 meets an incapable front-drive chassis, it means a crap.
Proton Satria Neo

Not as bad as Savvy and Gen.2, but still short of quality, refinement, space and ergonomics.
Past winners (losers):
2006  Proton Savvy
2005  Proton Gen.2
2004  Rover CityRover
2003  Mercury Marauder
