Ugliest Car of the year: Dodge Avenger

Few people would describe Chrysler Sebring as beautiful. However, compare to its sister car Dodge Avenger, at least it doesn't look as disgusting. The Dodge tried to resemble the legendary Charger, therefore it pumped up the muscles over the rear fenders, squared up the nose, sharpened the trailing end of rear side windows and added a boot spoiler. Unfortunately, these styling gimmicks locate on a body which is way too short, too tall and too bulky. The result is like Daniel DeVito wearing the uniform of Batman - no matter how hard he pretends to look cool, he still looks like the Joker. Well, at least the Joker make us laugh. In the case of Dodge Avenger, we can only use the word "disgusting" to describe its look. Its proportion is so wrong. Its blocky profile and in-your-face features are eyesores to any one with normal taste. Its interior design is about as good as Chinese cars. I can't understand how the design studio of Chrysler can produce such a rough and poorly finished design. Undoubtedly, Dodge Avenger is the ugliest new car we saw in 2006.

Runner up:
Dodge Caliber

There is nothing wrong about its pretension to be a sport utility. The only problem is poor execution. Like Avenger, this design is rough, poorly finished and shows the poor taste of its creators. Besides, the blocky shape returns poor aerodynamic drag.
Lexus ES350

Not as bad as Chrysler's cars, but the ES does not live up to our expectation for a Lexus, given the recent success of IS, GS and LS. When you look at it, you cannot tell any design philosophy behind it. The front end design is characterless. The streamline profile can appear in any brands. There is no family resemblance with other Lexuses. Instead, it looks every bit like a Toyota.
Kia Opirus

The original Opirus was already a conservative design. The facelift introduced last year made it even uglier. It seems that Kia copied the shape of an early 1980s Buick or Cadillac, then added the headlights of an old Mercedes E-class and an outdated laughing grille. Can't imagine anyone younger than 60 years old will buy this car.
