I
remember I saw Swift for the first time in around 1990 with amazing -
in
then, it was a really beautiful car, with build quality that can amaze
all European car makers. I remember how good the Swift GTi performed -
the sophistigated 100hp 1.3 litres Dohc 16 valves engine enables 114mph
top speed and 0-60mph in only 8.7sec, as recorded by Autocar. It was
definitely
my favourite GTi besides Peugeot 205.
After 7 years, I am amazed that Swift is still selling in the North American market. Besides minor facelift that removed all the best feature from the old car, besides the delete of the best GTi engine, Swift seems to change little. Disappointingly, time did not improve the car, it probably made it even worse. Today, Swift becomes a dying cheap car. I will always remember how stunning I first met it in 1990.
